If you are a business trying to recruit local talent, see how local SEO can help.

Here at YDOP, we help our clients generate more leads, measured by phone calls, emails, form completions, registrations, or traffic to your store.

But what if you aren’t looking to get more leads? What if your problem is having too many leads, and not enough staff to follow up with or serve the new customers? Digital marketing can help with that.

Thanks to Google, social platforms, and dedicated job boards, it is now even easier to find and recruit potential hires online for your local business. And some of the tactics and components of local SEO apply to recruitment, making sure that local qualified candidates can find your company and job listing.

6 Digital Marketing Tactics for Hiring Locally

1. Employment Page

An employment page is the first component to any online hiring campaign for a local business. We find that an employment page is one of the most visited pages on most local business websites; that’s because potential customers who want to learn more about your company will look there to see who you hire.

If you are hiring for multiple locations or regions, you can create individual job postings for each region with location-specific keywords and information; this will go a long way towards helping the page (and your site) rank in that area.

Structured data – like Schema’s jobPosting listing – can provide search engines with even more information about the job in an easy-to-understand format. This is one of the ways you can get your job posted in Google’s search results.

3 Reasons to Have an Employment Page on Your Website

Even if you are not looking to hire new team members right now, I strongly recommend you include an employment page on your website. Here’s why:

  1. Another way to describe your company. The employment page is the perfect place to showcase your company culture, values, and uniqueness – all of which can be the difference in being hired by potential customers.
  2. Don’t turn away exceptional hires. If the perfect prospect – education, experience, and attitude – reached out to you looking for a position, would you turn them away, or would you try to find a spot for them? On your employment page, you can add language that states that you are not actively seeking new hires, but would be interested in talking to qualified individuals. That way you can keep the pipeline open with potential hires for when the need arises.
  3. Easier to ramp up when you do need to hire. While you might not need to hire right now, what happens when you are short-staffed six months from now? It is easier to add a job posting to an already-built employment page than it is to create a new page from scratch.

2. Employment Websites

A large crop of employment websites have become go-to resources for job hunters. Sites like Indeed, Monster, Craigslist, and industry-specific job boards can get you in front of job seekers, and local resources like the Chamber of Commerce or local college or university job board can find local talent.

On some of these sites, it can be hard to stand out among the large volume of postings and even spam listings. Find out the right job titles and keywords that people are searching for and add that to your listing so you can be found. You may also want to pay for premium listings to stand out even more.

3. Glassdoor

I listed Glassdoor separately from other employment websites. That’s because Glassdoor provides greater insights into your company than the other sites. When a potential hire looks up your business on Glassdoor, they can see reviews from current and past employees, interview questions, and salary ranges – all of which can go into making a first impression about your company.

If you are looking to recruit new team members, it is crucial that you update and optimize your Glassdoor profile. View the reviews in the same way you do reputation management: intentionally ask for them.

4. Social Job Posting

Facebook and LinkedIn both have job posting features that can place your position in front of the right candidates. Facebook’s job posting is free, can be boosted, and makes it easy to apply right in the Facebook app. LinkedIn’s job platform is not free, but your listing will get in front of people who are best qualified for the job; this is an ideal recruitment tool for professional or executive positions.

5. Display Ads

Creating display ads on Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn is a good choice for targeting those who are not currently looking for a job. You may want to target employees from a competitor, college students, or those with very specific habits, skills, or behaviors. Which display platform you go with depends on your business, the profile of your potential hires, and your budget.

6. Social Posts

For some industries and positions, nothing quite beats old fashioned word of mouth recommendations. We have seen success when a business owner, leader, or team members post that their company is hiring, as it relies on your trusted network of social connections.
